I fail at flowers

I love flowers around my house, but the only thing i can grow seems to be day lilies, lots of day lilies.

I like all different colors everywhere. I dont know if my soil is bad or if I just have no green thumbs.

I would love any advise anyone can give me to help my yard be a rainbow of colors.
